Industry Terms

Carousel : The manual screen printing press. (Works in a rotating circle, hence the name)

Digitize : The process of taking a digital art file and converting it to a stitch file.

Emulsion : Light sensitive resin, used to coat the screens. Similar consistency as paint.

Mesh Count : The amount of silk fibers in a single inch. (Higher mesh count = more detail and a softer print, but can cause some dulling of the colors)

Plastisol : Synthetic paint-like substance, hardened by heat. (aka ink)

Platens: Boards, sized different to fit and hold various garments while being screen printed.

Vector: Editable, scalable digital art file.

Vellum : As it related to screen printing, it is a clear plastic like paper.
